Jonathan,

hmm, you mean, like signing the set with a public key ?

Subject: [ckan-discuss] Mechanisms for ensuring provenance in CKAN

Hi all,

I wonder what kinds of mechanisms we have (or we are planning) to be
able to help establish or 'guarantee' provenance in CKAN? I'm
particularly thinking in relation to publicdata.eu. For example, is
there any way we can 'certify' certain data packages/resources as
official? Even if we capture back changes/edits/derived datasets, I
think there is still something to be said for a mechanism to
distinguish data.gov.uk datasets from derived datasets or unofficial
datasets. Also what about, e.g. providing a mechanism for public
bodies to 'certify' derived datasets contributed externally?

What do people think?

All the best,

Jonathan
