[open-government] Open Government Data: Montevideo is calling- Datos Abiertos: Montevideo llama

Hi Ton,

This i <http://www.montevideo.gub.uy/institucional/datos-abiertos>s the
current website from the council. In the website they make specific
reference to the 8 Open Govt Data Principles (which according to the
webstite the City Council endorses) and provide the first data sets for
people to use. If you look closely to the resolution in Spanish it actually
states the principles, which I find it is quite progressive, as not much
official legislation in the world, that I am aware of, endorses them.

Furthermore they also provide a link so you can contact and request data and
an initiat catalogue.. These were actually our recommendations, this is to
say to start creating a catalogue and release data, enforcing the policy
they neatly stated. So we "nudge" them to keep up with the high standards
they set up (and on which we congratulated them), and also to promote the
use of information. (as you can see most of the data sets were uploaded in
November this year) turning the words into actual policy.

As with much of these things, now is up to Uruguayans (or other people
around the world) to demand more from them,as they are actually keen on
delivering.

I hope this helps, feel free to contact me if you need more info

Best,
F.
