Workshop on open government data and privacy 

9 March 2011 – ICRI, K.U.Leuven Part of the PrimeLife workshop series

Open Government Data (OGD) has already proven to supply great potential for participation, innovation and democracy. At the same time, concerns about de-anonymising and linking public data to individuals need to be addressed. The workshop aims at bringing together experts in OGD and privacy to look for approaches avoiding potential dilemmas.
In the morning after a quick introduction of the problem areas based on some example scenarios, different approaches for addressing the problem will be discussed. Following an open format, afternoon sessions will be allocated based on the results of the morning discussion to go in more depth with those approaches that need more attention.
To keep the scope of the workshop focused, areas such as enterprise data and involvement as well as long term effects on the development of PETs are not going to be addressed. It is the intention of the organizers to find steps and ways forward to facilitating release of Government data, while maintaining privacy protection.

This workshop is the first in a series. It is organised by the international working group on open data & privacy that has been funded after the OGD Camp in London in November last year. The aim of this working group is to bring together experts from both the open data and the privacy, data protection to further research on this issues.
