For Hackfest Brisbane (a one day event, on 26 November 2011), Brisbane City Council is releasing data such as bus stop locations, wheelie bin (waste) collection days, CityCycle bicycle hire locations, parking areas, Eat Safe ratings and dog parks under CC BY licences. HackFest Brisbane is timed to coincide with the launch of the hack::Brisbane competition that challenges software developers to help improve Brisbane with creative new apps or websites that use Brisbane City Council data.

I am looking for recommendations on readings on the detailed process of
developing an organization's social media strategy, example social media
strategy development process templates, and some actual government or
non-profit strategy documents.

Along those lines grad students in my "Social Media: Engaging Democracy and
Communities Online" course at the U of M Humphrey School are also
interested in learning more about the state of the art in measuring ROI in
terms of social media allocation of resources from staff time to the tools
used for various goals.

Any suggestions?

Anyone here speak on that topic (would be via Skype, U.S. Central time
evening on a Wednesday)?

Hello Open Data types,

I hope you all don't mind me posting a RHoK event to the Open Data lists.
Many of you may remember that last year in Oxford we hosted an Open Data
Hack Day, which was a big success. Well this year we've decided to focus on
RHoK, but of course, any Open Data heads are welcome to come use the
facilities.

Please join us on December 3rd and 4th for a RHoK hackathon in Oxford.

Hacking for Humanity

Throughout the weekend, we will be coding around real world problems from
all over the world.

RHoK has been working with subject matter experts from around the world to
develop problem statements addressing real world development and
humanitarian challenges. These problem statements will be the hacking
challenges thrown out to the developers at the RHoK hackathon. In Oxford,
we will have subject matter experts and problems from Oxfam GB, based in
Oxford. See those statements as they develop at www.rhok.org.

At the end of the weekend, we'll invite you to share your RHoK application
with the group and see your work put to use on the ground to save lives and
alleviate suffering.

What Do I Need?
We will provide facilities, power, food and refreshments to help you write
your application. Just bring your laptop, ideas, and enthusiasm to
complete the mix.

When and Where?
The Oxford hackathon will take place from Saturday, December 3rd at 09:00
until Sunday,
December 4th at 17:00. It will be held at the offices of White October (
http://www.whiteoctober.co.uk/ ), Unit 3 The Gallery, 54 Marston Street,
Oxford.

Space is limited so sign up now:
http://www.rhok.org/event/oxford-united-kingdom

Best wishes

Kevin Carmody

Hi Antti,

I've added the Austrian situation to the mentioned Etherpad.

And I want to add, that the discussed "no-license-policy" is dangerous. Not to add any license regime to a piece of content means in many national legislations to fall back to restrict copyright regulations by default.

that we're organizing a wrokshop/round table in order to discuss open data
licence choices made in all of our countries (friday 21st, 4:30 pm)

In France, the licence subject has risen many issues since a lot of public
actors usually want to sell their data. Thanks to the lobbying from the
community, some Open Licences (ODbL mostly, which was officially translated)
were adopted by multiple cities and during next week, after months of
discussion with the government team in charge of the coming data.gouv.fr ,
should be released the future official national french licence, that should
be similar to a BY licence, inpired by the british OGL.

We understand that more than 40 different countries will be represented in
Warsaw, so we believe it would be really interesting to have representants
from most countries share altogether what official choices were made in
every country regarding open licences for data and how the communities can
puh towards open licences and how to ensure international compatibilities
between all of these

This should also be a good occasion to discuss the open clauses that can be
included by an open licence. After the release a couple ays ago of the
canadian study on share-alike for collectivities data, at the opposite to
the choice ome french cities including Paris did wih ODbL, it seems like
having an international discussion among the community on the mater would be
of great use and interest.
