Yes, definitely!
And to be more concrete ... In IIIF, we run our production site (iiif.io)
on Amazon, out of github via webhooks. That has worked very well for that
community to allow people to contribute and manage the outreach and
documentation efforts.
If there was enthusiasm and time for people to work a revised
openannotation.org site, I expect that setup could be very quickly
replicated within the openannotation/ github.
