[annotator-dev] Overlapping highlights

Hi all,

First: thanks for all the work you've put in on Annotator. It's great stuff.

Second: I've noticed that when two highlights overlap a section of text, 
Annotator creates three new spans. I understand that this is a 
limitation of HTML and so can't be changed

Is there some easy utility function in Annotator that I can call in a 
plugin that will allow me to select all relevant spans for a specific 
annotation?
