you are aware you can just point pip at a .tar.gz and tell it to install, right? so have a patched version and put it in the pip requirements and nobody will be the wiser. in fact this is what i should have done with the pyodbc thing rather than explaining, that's what i had memespring do for his painless install.

anyhow, monkey patch is a very bad idea and a last resort if nothing else is possible.
