[ckan-dev] Dev Challenge 2011

Hi Lucy,

I am the person who started this idea of the PyDAP plug in, and since you
mentioned it in your message, I decided to chime in.

The plug in is still in its design stage, and I think it is too small a
piece of the whole open repository scene, to warrant a discussion on the
future of repositories from its perspective.

It is true that the main feature of DAP, which is the ability to introspect
and query from complex and large datases, is still missing from most
platforms. I also believe that the future of open data must necessary lead
to the possibility to navigate data sets, cherry-picking what we need, which
is something DAP was designed for.

Having said all that, If someone wants to take the lead and write some entry
for the challenge based on those ideas, I'll be glad to help, but especially
given the close deadline for submission, and my tight schedule, I would not
take on this task alone.
