Hi Seb,
I just stumbled across this site, just in case you weren't aware of it:
http://www.infochimps.com/
I like the UI (the first impression you get on landing on a page is
really positive). It seems that they give access to some of the actual
datasets through an API.
Looks like there is also data available for purchase, like the Pokemon
database (http://www.infochimps.com/datasets/pokemon-database) and
that the have a big team behind it.
