Hi Gerald,
Sorry for the delay. If you try to run CKAN using paster instead of Apache,
does it work?
Also, any specific reasons that you're using 1.8 instead of 2.0? Even
though we haven't oficially released it, it's already safe to use. All
that's left is documentation work.
