[ckan-dev] authorization groups ?

Pascal,

As I understand it, authorization groups were removed from the UI in
1.7 and from the core in 1.8. Digging out the paster code from earlier
versions would perhaps be possible, but no good if you are ever going
to upgrade. You could just run paster commands in batch to achieve
what you want.

The replacement feature was 'publisher profile' / 'organizations'
(created in the 'group refactor') and is available in CKAN 1.7-1.8 I
believe. It allows you to associate users with groups with a certain
permission to edit datasets in that group, so subtly different to
Authorization Groups, but better fits the common usage pattern.

BTW data.gov.uk extends 'publisher profile' to allow publishers to be
in a hierarchy, with permissions that extend to sub-publishers.

And I believe there has been a lot of work in the area of publishers
and permissions for CKAN 2.0, but if you're interested in that, then
Toby would have to tell you the upshot.
