Hi Mohammad,

CKAN can't at present do automatic extraction of metadata from a data
file. It's been discussed before, e.g. it's mentioned in Joss Winn's
paper evaluating CKAN for RDM:

It would definitely be useful to be able to provide this, though of
course since each file format stores different metadata and in
different ways, it would probably be a bit tricky. Still, if people
wrote their own parsers to extract metadata from their favourite file
types, CKAN could at least provide a way to hook these in when a file
is uploaded.
