[ckan-dev] augment_data function in dictization_functions.py

Can anyone tell me of the intended behavior of the augment_data function in
dictization_functions.py?

There was only one direct test for it (in test_navl.py). I was seeing some
weird behavior with validators and had some of my data values stored in
'__extras'.

I've made several changes to ckan core in my workspace, but at least for
me, this test snippet would fail https://gist.github.com/dwcaraway/6489637

I fixed the failing test by tweaking the augment_data function, but would
like to better understand the function to write some more unit tests in
support of the function.
