Is someone aware of an example of how to build an extension that implements a search interface for metadata fields implemented with IDatesetForm?

As an example, we implemented additional metadata fields "start_date", "end_date", and "variables" and are interested to provide a graphical user interface that allows the user to find all data sets that contain data of a specific variable within a given time interval (and at a specific location specified with the extension "spatial").
