Folks,

Howdy! Long-time archives reader, first-time poster. :) Ross Jones was kind enough to write here about U.S. Open Data’s plans to fund improvements to CKAN to make it easy to run lots of instances at once <https://lists.okfn.org/pipermail/ckan-dev/2014-December/008453.html>, and some of you contributed to the project's GitHub repository and e-mailed me with suggestions and ideas, which was wonderful and essential in ways I couldn’t have forecast.

Now I’m writing to say that we’ve published a pair of RFPs for some of the work necessary to make these improvements, which you can read about at <https://usopendata.org/2015/01/07/ckan-rfp/>. One is to create (or bolt-on) comprehensive export functionality within CKAN, to export both metadata and the actual hosted data. The other is to create a CKAN Docker management platform, to make it possible to manage a bunch of Dockerized CKAN instances.

Although I am a developer, I’m a PHP veteran and a Python newbie, which is to say that I have no capacity to do any of this work myself. [Insert PHP joke here.] Although neither of these RFPs require, strictly speaking, CKAN experience, surely that will go a long way to producing a useful product. Which is to say that I sure hope that some of you folks will consider bidding on these projects! If you have any questions, suggestions, concerns, etc., please let me know. Thanks!

Best,
Waldo
