Sent to the JISCMRD and the RESEARCH-DATAMAN lists, potentially of interest
to all JISCMRD projects and the wider community of interest in research
data management:

Both the Orbital (Lincoln) and data.bris (Bristol) JISCMRD projects have
recently adopted CKAN (http://ckan.org) as part of their research data
management technical infrastructure and we are aware that other
universities are also appraising it for their needs.  Joss Winn (Orbital
project, Lincoln) intends to produce a critical evaluation of CKAN for
HEI's research data management needs and would welcome your input at a
workshop in central London in February (date and venue to be confirmed).

The workshop is an opportunity to learn more about CKAN and to meet Mark
Wainwright from the Open Knowledge Foundation, which leads the development
of CKAN. Joss would also like you to feed into a requirements gathering
exercise that will steer his evaluation of CKAN for academic use. This
evaluation may also influence the future development of CKAN which will
benefit the higher education sector.

Whether you can attend or not, it would be very helpful if you can send
Joss (jwinn at lincoln.ac.uk) any user requirements documents or links to
similar requirements gathering exercises you have already undertaken for an
RDM system at your institution.
