Hi Peter,

I'll respond to the issues you've listed in the spreadsheet as well as the
additional queries you raised in the support list.

1. Issues to be completed by end of sprint (ending Friday, 8 March),
these are all issues that Darwin indicated would be dealt with during the
current development sprint:

a. Link to AusGOAL licenses and images: this is the Creative Commons
Australia license, which will be added in;

b.      New password: has been sent to you earlier today;

c. Unable to preview dataset: this is part of a larger issue related
to our dataproxy; our short-term fix is that the user will get an indication
if the remote file is too large to preview (which is currently the case with
the files loaded into the portal); in the long-term we can cache the files
locally, or use a new "streaming" version of the dataproxy, which would load
only a subset of data at a time (this would form part of the CKAN 2.1
release);

Note that this is only a problem for remotely-hosted data; data hosted in
the datastore does not have this problem as it is processed during upload;

d. SA Government compliance requirements: as agreed, we're awaiting
copy for these changes;

e. Unable to store dataset: it appears the datastore has not been
enabled, we will do this;

f. Documentation for administration: we're aiming to complete and
update documentation as part of the CKAN 2.0 release process;

g. Registration function: this will be repaired; admin ability to
create new users directly will be incorporated after CKAN 2.0;

h. Google Analytics: this would need to be set up; however, please
could you create a Google Analytics account which could then be linked to
the service (http://www.google.com/analytics/learn/index.html); you would
need to give us access to this account and we would then integrate into
CKAN;

2. Additional extensions and issues from support request:

a. Additional metadata requests: (e.g. data fields, such as currency,
coverage, date, etc; size of dataset; dataset ratings): this would need to
be clearly scoped but has been incorporated into such sites as data.gov.uk;
note that this is an additional service requiring custom development and is
beyond the scope of the current support and deployment; we estimate around
5-10 days, depending on the full nature of your requirements; if this is a
priority, we should set up a meeting to go through your requirements in
detail;

b. Statistics: the full range of statistics can be seen once Google
Analytics are incorporated, but basic statistics are available here
http://sa.ckan.net/stats#total-datasets

c. Activity log: your version of CKAN was reverted to an older,
stable, deployment on the path to 2.0 and does not offer this functionality;
once 2.0 is complete then we will upgrade your site and restore this
functionality;

d. Resource information: "id", "resource group id", "revision id" are
not particularly meaningful to the casual browser, but are important to app
developers wishing to utilise the API; this is an open issue in the
development path and we would be looking to simplify this table and
"humanise" the content; if does not affect functionality;

Please could you let me know if there are any other issues still to be
addressed. The issues in 1. will conclude the deployment for your site
based on our initial agreement. CKAN 2.0 beta should be complete this week
and we will immediately begin the month-or-so of work required to complete
CKAN 2.0 release. The issues we've flagged are still on track to be
completed in this development sprint and will be addressed by 8 March. We
will perform the upgrade to 2.0 as soon as that is released.

Apologies for any lack of clarity during the support process and we'll do
our best to ensure we communicate better in future.

Kind regards

Gavin

For Official Use Only

Hi Gavin,

  I've logged another few issues/questions re our instance at
'support at ckan.org' and CC'd you.

Regarding the bigger picture, I need the key issues I have raised sorted out
with some urgency. While the initial build was not time-bound, we are
approaching a time where we must be able to demonstrate stability of the
site in order to meet expectations and to support other programs that will
use the site.

I have attached an updated version of my log. Can you please indicate
status of the "Required" issues, noting that one of them (R08) is presently
in my hands?

I have CC'd Baden Appleyard, the National Director of AusGOAL as our
progress on 2.0 will inform broader use of CKAN (the AusGOAL demonstrator
etc).

Thanks,

  Peter
