[ckan4rdm] CKAN as a research data repository Re: ckan4rdm Digest, Vol 7, Issue 1

Hi

We are using CKAN for the DART project (dartportal.leeds.ac.uk). This is
part of an open science heritage project. This allows us to do more
interesting stuff during the project lifetime. I am presenting on this
at a Sustaining Heritage conference next week - video of my presentation
hre: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRtlJym_X44

Some of this data has been repurposed by the Archaeology Data Service
for long-term archivation and re-use:
http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/archives/view/dart_ahrc_2013/index.cfm

We created a bespoke ingest system so we could bulk-upload 1000's of
data objects and attribute metadata easily. We have also used the
OAI-PMH plugin so the metadta can be exposed and harvested by others
(ADS and Europeana spring to mind). We hit a 4gb file size problem which
we've just worked around - so should be uploading evrything else over
the next few weeks.

Best

Ant

We'd be very much interested to find out how others are using CKAN or planning to use it. Do you just use individual components, or are you planning to implement the whole package with all of its components?

Are there already organisations that are implementing or planning to implement the CKAN file store and data store as part of their solution? If so, would it be possible, please, to share experiences with us?
