Dear all

The UK government has been planning for some time now to establish some kind of one stop shop for public data. The public announcement of a new Public Data Corporation some weeks ago generated lots of anxiety among open data activists as it seemed that the objectives were a bit muddled.

It was unclear whether the new body would try to just centralise the sales of data to make more money, or focus on making data available. Many other questions have been raised in emails and blogs. A common theme in the discussions was the lack of details released, and a wall of silence surrounding the preparations and internal works of government.

Despite repeated attempts to get clarification from the government on what the Public Data Corporation will look like, we have no idea. As it transpires, it may be that simply there is no idea, as different priorities within government vie with each other in an attempt to shape the agenda.
That's why at ORG we have decided to call on all the people with an interest in this topic to propose ideas for a VISION for the Public Data Corporation via a public wiki
Please help shape this important new body so it can increase welfare, innovation, transparency and participation.
All contributions are welcome: great and small, insights and caveats, gossip and experience, etc.
