[euopendata] ESA Copernicus free datasets - unclear licensing situation

Hi,

does anyone on this list know anything about ESA's (European Space Agency)
plans on "opening" satellite imaging data? My colleague from Finland
alerted me that there seems to be willingness to open the data, but the
licensing situation is quite unclear.

Hi Jogi,

Here is short summary about ESA's Copernicus free datasets as I mentioned
earlier today:

I join short seminar about ESA's new satellite imagery services on
Wednesday. ESA's Finnish ambassadors mentioned in the seminar that all new
satellite images / data will be free. That was very good news. Well, first
new satellite will be launch on March. So we need to wait data...

I asked about data license: it is still under a construction. However, I
got feeling that it's not so open as it should. Later on I got email and I
got a few block from draft license paper. There was one phrase which pretty
much close whole dataset: "The rights under this paragraph shall not be
available to corporations active in internet related services and products,
including...". "This paragraph" means a paragraph where they mention that
data is free to use. I just wonder what corporation/firm is not active in
internet related services?

However, I pretty much know if somebody in Open Knowledge Foundation has
been in touch with ESA or EU about this case.
