Yes. I think we should do that before going further.

I did think about this briefly over the weekend and below's a brief
outline of an idea inspired by my recent reading of Flat Earth News
(courtesy of Becky and James). What do people think? Has something
been tried before?

Title: (Adding) The Source

Purpose: Add sources (back) into news stories using large-scale
automated text-matching

Brief summary: most news articles give little or no indication of the
source of their material. However, research shows that a vast amount
of news output from top newspapers, especially online, is recycled
directly from the news wires or press releases with obvious negative
effects on the quality of journalism. In this project we will exploit
the possibilities of large-scale automated text-matching to
automatically identify and document such recycling providing a way for
readers to "add the source" back into what they read.
