HI all,
Please find below (for the record) clarification of the OKF's
remaining Communia budget, and about how this can be used. In total,
we should have € 8,626.5 left to be used from now until August 2010.
It would be great if it was possible that we could all try and go to
at least one of the following:
1. 1-2 February 2010, a crucial workshop on policy & the public
domain in Luxembourg (workshop),
2. in April somewhere in the EU (workshop), [possibly Istanbul]
3. 28-30 June 2010 in Turin (final conference of the project)
Also we should open this invitation to our advisory board members,
working group members and others.
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am replying on Juan Carlos' behalf because I am in charge of this
kind of issues.
Please find here below my answer.
I hope this can help you.
All my best,
Federica
Each COMMUNIA Member (50 Members in total) has a budget of € 4,800.00
per each year. In your case, € 4,800.00 *3 = total € 14,400.00.

Hi J.C.,
I've recently had a conversation with our board about the OKF's
Communia budget, and wondered if you could clarify a few things so I
can report back to them?
(i) Am I correct in thinking that the OKF will be allocated 4800 EUR
for 2008-9 and 4800 for 2009-10? Which is 9600 EUR overall?
Yes, perfectly understood!
So far I believe we have received half of the budget for 2008-9.
Yes, you received the first installment for 2008-9 of 2,880 € and
untill now you spent just € 973.50.
If we are still going to receive the second installment for 2008-9,
when will we
receive this?
You will receive the second installment for 2008-9 of € 1.920,00 when
OKF will spend at least the remaining amount related to the 2nd year =
€ 3,826.5 (= 4,800 - 973.50).
In few words OKF should spend the remaining amount related to the 2nd
year = € 3,826.5 (= 4,800 - 973.50) + € 4,800.00 for the 3rd year =
total amount of € 8,626.5, that can be spent from now until the end of
the project (31st August 2010).
Do you think to manage to spend this amount planning to attend the
future COMMUNIA events?
(ii) Do the budgets roll over? I.e. can we spend any of our 2008-9
budget in 2009-10?
Yes, sure (see above).
(iii) Is it alright if we use our budget for travel expenses for OKF
members coming from outside of Europe? E.g. for Advisory Board Members
such as Peter Suber (also at SPARC), Project Advisory members such as
Ellen Miller (also at Sunlight Foundation), project and working group
members and so on?
Yes.
For (iii) we'd particularly like to invite several US public domain
experts that are working with the OKF on public domain calculators. We
think their contribution for WG6 on the calculators would be very
valuable - and wanted to check we can reimburse them for their flights
from the US. It would be really useful for them to meet other Communia
members, especially Lucie Gilbault at IViR, and others directly
working on the same issues as them...
I hope all is well!
Yes, you can reimburse them for their flights from the US. Consider
that any colleague, PHD student, researcher, etc. interested or
involved into the COMMUNIA topics and who could give any contribution
to the Thematic Network can attend the COMMUNIA events.
Please find here below the future scheduled COMMUNIA events so that
OKF people could organize them on time :
1. 1-2 February 2010, a crucial workshop on policy & the public
domain in Luxembourg (workshop),
2. in April somewhere in the EU (workshop),
3. 28-30 June 2010 in Turin (final conference of the project)
Finally, consider also the email sent from Juan Carlos on 28/10/2009
0.02 "[Communia-members] [Fwd: Request for Cooperation and
membership]", speaking about the opportunity to invite an ICT-related
NGO based in Kosovo, Mediafleta (on your funding)
to the remaining COMMUNIA events.
