Dear Ben

I'm writing to formally ask you to consider joining the Open Knowledge
Foundation as a non-Executive Director and member of the Foundation
Board. The organisation is in the middle of a period of rapid change
and the Board would welcome the contribution your expertise would
bring, in particular in guiding us through structuring an organisation
that is accountable to its community.

At a minimum, OKF asks potential new Board members to commit to the
following before they accept an invitation to join the Board:

-Assuming collective responsibility for financial and legal probity of
organisation

-Promoting the organisation and its goals

-Attending quarterly board meetings (We want Board members to attend
all four each year, but appreciate that circumstances might prevent
this. Remote participation is available. Absent mitigating factors, a
minimum expectation would be 3/4 board meetings, so long as meetings
were calendared sufficiently far in advance)

-Reviewing materials ahead of Board meetings

-Reading our email list (approx 100 threads/year currently, likely to
decline) and responding where you have specific expertise

-Participating in email list votes from time to time (roughly six of
these per year)

We also invite Board members to attend the annual Open Knowledge
Conference, which this year was held in Berlin.

You can find out who else is on the OKF board here:

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I
look forward to hearing from you.

Becky Hogge
Non-executive Director, Open Knowledge Foundation
