[foundation-board] Fwd: Frictionless Data

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to forward some great news - Josh from Sloan Foundation has
confirmed his intention to fund Frictionless Data Phase II at $750,000.

Of course, now I need to shape a more concrete proposal from the rough
roadmap I gave him in October/November 2017, but this is quite exciting for
us, both in securing funding for data infrastructure, and external
validation of the work we are doing in this area.

Now: we work hard to ensure this proposal is *outstanding* and gets through
their review process.

Best,

Paul

Hi, Paul…

Picking up this thread - huge apologies for my long silence (a leadership
change here has drawn more focus than I’d expected).

I know that I’ve got time with Jo on my calendar tomorrow which will be
great for an update. For now, here’s where things stand on my end; I can
support a grant of up to $750k, spread roughly equally over three years and
inclusive of up to 15% overhead. I know that this is a bit smaller than
your lower-end scenario, so I’d be interested to hear where you’d put focus
given these bounds; sorry I can’t go higher given current budget
constraints on my end.

If you can move quickly on a proposal, I could try to get this into our
review process to put in front of my Board in March; would need a final
draft following the format at https://sloan.org/storage/
app/media/files/application_documents/proposal_guidelines_
non_research_trustee.pdf by midday US time on Thurs Feb 1 to make that
deadline. Or, can aim for by June board meeting.

Again, I’m terribly sorry for just getting back to you now…how would you
like to proceed?

- Josh

Hi Josh,

End of year is coming up, and at OKI we are wrapping up the current phase
of Frictionless Data with Sloan funding. I'm very happy with the progress
we've all made as a team, and I trust that you will find the project report
satisfactory when it hits your desk.

I know you are likely very busy, but it would be helpful for me to know how
things are looking from your on on Frictionless Data and next phase
funding. When we met in Berlin, you indicated that you should be able to
get back to me in mid-November with next steps.

Thanks Josh, and Happy Hannukah / Merry Christmas / Happy New Year for the
upcoming holiday season!

Best,

Paul
