A couple of approaches I tried early on:
1) i run a search column in tweetdeck for /know where data/ that I use to find
tweets i can respond to with a "have youy tried asking on getTheData"; been a
bit neglectful of this lately... - some degree of success with this
2) commenting on blog posts discovered through search pointing people to
getthedata, esp where there are answers to questions raised in posts
3) hack days: if i spot a hackday hashtag early on, I try to raise awareness of
getTheData as a place where folk my capture and record questions arisong, and
use eg a tag in getthedata to marshall queries within the hackday context; in
theory, can also be used to engage remote audiences in supporting the hack day;
not a lot of success with this but it does sometimes get getTheData a mention
at the event itself as being gerenalt a Good Thing
