spoke this evening with someone from the BBC streaming division and 
conversation turned to open formats. First of all he distinguished open from 
'free' formats and allowed open formats to have patent encumbrance. This is 
something that clear definitions will help to sort out. Secondly he explained 
that the BBC hadn't adopted ogg-vorbis because of technical issues, in 
particular with the streaming ("it's fine as a storage format on your hard 
disk but as streaming ..."). It would be good to find out more what these were 
and whether they are being addressed as this would significantly aid pushing 
for adoption of vorbis - at least as an alternative - as a step towards info 
accessibility and openness.
