No, I haven't done anything on the server.  As far as I know
there isn't yet a server-side fix for the problem, which
apparently needs a different patch from that suggested at first
in the thread:

I'm a bit reluctant comment on these things, since I think git
is wonderful and don't use mercurial much (just by chance)...

However, I will say that many comparisons between the systems
are beside the point when you're dealing with quite such large
repositories.  In my experience git deals much better with them,
but there are still good reasons not to go down that route - in
particular that git doesn't yet have good support for narrow or
shallow clones.
