Dear all,

I hope all's going well with everyone since the Open Data course last December.

I had the request below out of the blue from Marie Laberge at the
UNDP, asking for any recommendations for a consultant to do a piece of
work on advocacy in the extractives industry. I've asked my colleagues
for suggestions, but I also remember that two or three of you were
involved in extractives, so if anyone has any suggestions or interest,
give me a shout.

Best,

Mark

Subject: Recommendations - consultant
To: Mark Wainwright

Dear Mark,

Greetings from sunny Dakar, hope this finds you well!

I was wondering whether the OKF might be able to recommend a good
consultant for this initiative which we are supporting with the Web
Foundation:
The Web Foundation, is developing a programme to build the skills of
civil society activists to understand and use large, machine-readable,
mix-and-matchable datasets. One of the sectors we are particularly
interested in is extractives. We're looking for a consultant with deep
experience in extractives advocacy and research to help us scope the
way that activists currently use information and evidence, the gaps
that exist and how data science might help them to improve their
advocacy and impact. Ideally, this should be a person with excellent
knowledge of relevant monitoring, transparency and research
initiatives and institutions in the sector (e.g. EITI) but also with
practical experience of the day to day realities of civil society
organisations and their constraints. There are likely to be 3 focus
countries - Africa, Latin America and SE Asia.
Your sharing of any good names you might have come across in this area
would be extremely helpful.

Many thanks in advance,

Best wishes,
Marie
