Dear all,

I'm pleased to announce that Hans Rosling of Gapminder is joining the
Open Knowledge Foundation's Advisory Board!

>From his Wikipedia biography (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Rosling):

Hans Rosling is Professor of International Health at Karolinska
Institutet and Director of Gapminder Foundation, Stockholm, Sweden.
>From 1967 to 1974 he studied statistics and medicine at Uppsala
University, and in 1972 he studied public health at St John's Medical
College, Bangalore. He became a licenced physician in 1976 and from
1979 to 1981 he served as District Medical Officer in Nacala in
northern Mozambique.

>From the Gapminder about page (http://www.gapminder.org/about-gapminder/):

Gapminder is a non-profit venture promoting sustainable global
development and achievement of the United Nations Millennium
Development Goals by increased use and understanding of statistics and
other information about social, economic and environmental development
at local, national and global levels.

The Gapminder project is an excellent high profile example of how
public information can be re-used. Hans been a strong proponent of
making public data available for re-use. Also, as you know, the OKF
has recently begun to expand its activities to include work on
visualisation technologies - with its workshops on Visualisation
technologies (http://okfn.org/wiki/OpenVisualisation/Workshop), and a
new Working Group on Open Visualisation - which will be launched in
the New Year. We hope Hans will help to advise and inform our
activities in this area.

Warm regards,

Jonathan
