Hi all,
I wanted to thank the new moderator Silvana for posting a recent blog post of mine which was a response to the announcement by Tony Abbott that he will fine MP's for making erronenous expense claims.
I am not sure that I am getting the updates from the list at the moment which is why I nearly missed that my blog was posted here.
I have been doing a lot of work expanding eXpenseAus which is my new database focusing on MP spending and now also pecuniary interests. Thanks to Alexander Sadlier for assistance with the latter through the OAF list.
eXpenseAus has been growing an audience primarily through social media thanks to the recent 'rorts' issue and had its genesis in my first #BudgetAus twitter chat as Margo Kingston and I both came up with the idea for such a database on that day and you see the result at http://infoaus.net/budget/expenses/expenses_home.php
It looks like I will be collaborating with an independent media publisher on one of my other databases which I've called SEIFA Yourself. This database combines Socio Economic Data based on Census data and published by the ABS with ABS and other postcode related data to create a database searchable by various geographical criteria including federal electorate. http://infoaus.net/seifa/seifa_home.php
Developers may be interested in the link to MapIt data generated with one of the forms on the search by postcodes page http://infoaus.net/seifa/postcode.php?variable=Griffith&state=ACT&submit=Go which gives you a link to the MapIt results of the postcode entered. This in turn gives you the Open Street Maps of electoral and geographic boundaries as well as JSON results.
I also hope to be generating some collaboration among mainstream and alternative media publishers in Australia around the concept of open government and the need for usable data formats. More on this as it develops.
regards,
