Hi folks,

In the last two Board meetings we've discussed the process for the OK Board
appointments.

The current process in place is pretty easy to follow, but not inherently
open and easy for anyone to access. You'll find it mentioned in the rules
here:
http://au.okfn.org/model-rules/

We put a post up four months ago to get feedback and have been discussing
the subject further within the Board over the last week. We'll end up
running with a process that is based on the rules to replace four outgoing
Board members over the next month (ahead of the next Board meeting on 29
September) so right now is a great time for people to nominate themselves
or others.

We're hoping to get people who are willing to help represent and develop
meetups in different parts of the country. If talking about just capital
cities then we are currently covered for Melbourne and Canberra. We're also
aiming to have at least three women join the Board to retain gender balance.

Those remaining on the Board are:
Nic - Melb - Chair
Fiona - Melb - Co-Chair
Markus Buchhorn - Canberra - Co-Chair
Steven - Canberra - Secretary n' Treasurer
Michael - Canberra

If you're interested in joining the Board then please feel free to give me
a call or send me an email - steven.decosta at linkdigital.com.au m:0416 195
108. Depending on the number of people interested we'll setup an
opportunity to talk with the folks listed above and discuss the types of
things we are both individually and collectively working on. We're hoping
to all get together on the 6th of September for a planning session in
Sydney so it would fantastic to see people come along and get involved. A
vote will formally be undertaken to appoint new Board members on the 29th
of September so there is plenty of time to reach out and see how you can
contribute over what is likely to be at least a two year appointment.

*The Fine Print*: Board members must attend quarterly board meetings to go
over financials (and any approved media statements). They are required to
observe events and activities. Board Members jointly share the risk of the
incorporated association as a legal entity. Naturally, Open Knowledge
Australia will carry insurance to protect its board members, however it is
the Board member who carries the risk and is liable for any advice or
activities provided by Advisers and/or Ambassadors. Board Members must be
aware of this risk.

Lastly - we want to give enormous thanks to those Board members who are
stepping down. To Anne, Ana, Maia and James - THANK YOU!!!

Rock on!
