The National Copyright Unit (NCU), with help from the Australian Government Open Access and Licensing Framework (AusGOAL), has produced an Open Educational Resources (OER) Toolkit for Teachers, Curriculum and eLearning Developers. The Toolkit can be found on the Smartcopying website here: http://www.smartcopying.edu.au/open-education/open-education-resources/open-educational-resources-(oer)-a-toolkit-for-teachers-curriculum-and-elearning-developers.

NCU and AusGOAL have recently joined QUT Law Faculty as Creative Commons Australia Co- Affiliates

The Toolkit has been developed to support teachers and schools as well as curriculum writers and e-learning areas within Departments of Education, Catholic Education Commissions and Associations of Independent Schools, to understand and make use of OER to create curriculum resources. The Toolkit specifically looks at how to find and use OER and how to licence these resources for incorporation into new learning resources.

The Toolkit has been built on the work of others, including:

  * OER Copyright and Licensing Toolkit<http://www.oerafrica.org/resource/oer-copyright-and-licensing-toolkit>, by South African Institute for Distance Education<http://www.saide.org.za/>. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Licence<https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/>.
  * OER Guidance for Schools<http://schools.leicester.gov.uk/openeducation> (2014), by Björn Haßler<http://bjohas.de/>, Helen Neo<http://www.nudgeoffice.org/> and Josie Fraser<http://www.josiefraser.com/>. Published by Leicester City Council<http://www.leicester.gov.uk/>, available under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0<http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/>.
  * Various pages of the AusGOAL website, www.ausgoal.gov.au<http://www.ausgoal.gov.au/>.
  * 'Free to Mix'<http://creativecommons.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Free-to-Mix.pdf>, by Creative Commons Aotearoa New Zealand<http://creativecommons.org.nz/> under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 New Zealand<http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/nz/>.

It is an excellent example of re-use and remixing and the importance of educational resources being licensed for such uses.

We will get pdf and doc version up on our website as soon we can.

Please share through your networks.
