Dear all,

first of all, I would like to express my deep compassion for the victims of the recent violence against civil society activists in your country. It makes me feel very sad and I feel our planned workshop on Open Government Data to be inadequate or at least to come at the wrong time, when the country is undergoing such difficult times. In a crisis like this other issues like defending basic human and civil rights, freedom of expression and freedom of the media require our attention! However I think its not possible to cancel or reschedule our workshop planned for 23 to 25 of August. So at least I hope we can have a critical debate and bring these issues to the attention of workshop participants and make them part of our conversation. Open Government requires a democratic and free society where the rule of law and civil rights are guaranteed and respected. Open Data will not have any positive impacts without these fundamental building blocks.

Never the less we are in the last steps preparing our workshop and as you might know UNDESA is preparing an Assessment on Open Government Data for Bangladesh. Apart from desk research and expert interviews the assessment contains two online surveys. The first one is questionnaire on the 8 dimensions of OGD. I need your help, by finding 10 experts within Government and 10 from Civil Society as well as 10 from Academia, Media and Private Sector (about 30 all together) who can complete this online form:

Online Self-Assessment Tool (Online Form): http://bit.ly/DPADM-OGDProject-Assessment

It contains 40 questions and it should not take longer than 15-20 minutes to complete the form. Please share the form with your colleagues and let me know who could help us with this.

The second part is a perception survey. It should be completed by man people from all stakeholder groups. Please share this widely:

Online Perception Survey (Online Form): http://bit.ly/DPADM-OGDProject-Survey

Also do you think we need to translate the form into Bengali Language? Of course I also hope you will complete both forms yourself.

We hope to present the initial findings at our 3 day workshop. Thanks for your help!

Kind regards
Daniel
