*Reporters without Borders and Tactical Tech are hosting a residency in 
Berlin for three months for a digital journalist.*

*Deadline for applications is 8 October 2014.

The residency is designed to support journalists from countries in Latin 
America, Africa, Asia, Central Asia, the Caucusus or the Middle East, 
who utilise digital technologies extensively in their work.

The residency will run from November 2014 to January 2015, for a maximum 
period of three months, and take place in the offices of Reporters with 
Borders and Tactical Tech in Berlin, Germany.

As the digital journalist in residence, you will be supported in your 
work by experts from the two organizations, with the aim of 
collaborating with them on either:
a) a project of your own choice or
b) in supporting the development of relevant projects at Reporters 
Without Borders and Tactical Tech.

We are looking for a person with experience who is interested in joining 
two small teams who are working internationally on issues related to the 
use of digital technology and the freeflow of information for the 
strengthening of journalism and civil society.

The successful candidate will work in a fluid environment, be willing to 
share her / his experience and expertise with the host organizations, 
and be confident working in English.

We are seeking a candidate for this residency who has extensive 
experience in one or more of the following areas, and has a demonstrable 
interest in developing this further in their work and the work of others:

  * data journalism or data related storytelling
  * digital investigation/using new technologies for investigative work
  * digital security and privacy

A good knowledge of digital techologies (the internet, mobile phones 
etc) and its implications for freedom of information, as well as 
experience carrying out journalistic work in repressive environments, is 
required.

As the digital journalist in residence, your travel and accommodation 
costs will be covered and you will receive a stipend of 3,000 € for 
three months to cover your living expenses during this time. We will 
support you in your visa application process, should you need one. 
Applicants should be prepared to relocate immediately.
