Dear Marieke,
I can add that Open Source Text Canada is currently working to move forward the creation of Open textbooks to be released under the CC BY-NC-SA licence which match provincial curricula across Canada.
Also, we are beginning work on an education-centric EPUB reader plugin for Mozilla's Firefox browser with Seneca's Centre for Development of Open Technology. Proposed feature sets are peer-to-peer collaboration, whiteboard compatibility, interactive testing, and more.
The project will seek to allow many design features currently accomplished with javascript, e.g., picture zoom, to improve security.
I would like to invite any interested OKFN members or institutions who might wish to participate to contact me.
Any Francophone members willing to assist OSTC with the development of French language material and establishing relations with Francophone school boards across Canada are also invited to contact me.
This also extends to Aboriginal communities wishing to develop textbooks in their own languages and scripts.
