In response to years of policies by the conservative government that erode
the important role of science in society, the *Stand up for Science* / *Tous
ensemble pour la science* rally is happening on Monday September 16 all
across Canada.

Confirmed speakers for the Montreal rally are *Laurin Liu*, NDP Science
critic, and *Marc Garneau*, Liberal MP and former Astronaut. Monday at Noon

It’s time to stand up for science in the public interest in Canada. In
recent years we have seen cuts to many important scientific institutions,
science funding has shifted focus towards the commercialization of
research, and government scientists have lost the ability to communicate
their research to the public.

Science matters to Canadians. Good science, when coupled with good
decision-making, keeps our water and air clean, keeps us healthy, keeps our
food safe and prepares Canada for the future. Science in the public
interest is crucial for our well-being and long-term prosperity.

To make the public aware of this, and to call on the federal government to
make a strong commitment to science in the public interest, we are
organizing ‘Stand Up for Science’ rallies across the country on September
16th 2013.

We will be calling on the Federal government to make a strong commitment to
science in the public interest by:

Funding scientific research from basic science through to applied.
Using the best available science and evidence to make the best decisions.
Supporting the open communication of pu

En avez-vous assez de l’érosion de la science au Canada? Êtes-vous d’avis
que le gouvernement devrait soutenir la science qui est au service de
l’intérêt public? Croyez-vous que les décisions devraient être fondées sur
des faits plutôt que sur l’idéologie? Joignez-vous �  nous le 16 septembre
pour montrer que nous sommes « Tous ensemble pour la science »!

Il est temps de s’unir dans la défense de l’intérêt public et de la science
au Canada. Au cours des dernières années, nous avons vu plusieurs
coupures budgétaires
touchant d’importantes institutions scientifiques, nous avons vu le
financement des programmes redirigé vers la commercialisation de la
recherche, et nous avons vu les scientifiques du gouvernement perdre leur
capacité �  communiquer les résultats de leur recherche au public.

La science est importante pour les Canadiens et Canadiennes. La recherche
scientifique de qualité, lorsque associée �  un processus décisionnel
éclairé, protège notre eau et qualité d’air, nous garde en santé, s’assure
que notre nourriture est saine et prépare les Canadiens et Canadiennes �
l’avenir. Notre bien-être ainsi que notre prospérité �  long terme va de
pair avec l’alignement de la science et de l’intérêt public.

Pour sensibiliser la population et pour demander au gouvernement fédéral de
s’engager �  soutenir la science qui œuvre pour l’intérêt public, nous
organisons des manifestations pancanadiennes le 16 septembre 2013.

Nous avons besoin de votre soutien pour que cet événement soit un succès.
La manifestation « Death of Evidence » en juillet dernier avait eu un
