I'd say (off the top of my head, and in train so refs will be a bit
vague):
- Is the Scottish Government committed to open data and what steps is
it taking to ensure this happens (data.scotland.gov ?), both for
Scottish govt data and local data.
- will they be opening up core datasets and how will they be doing it
eg will the Scottish Statistics service be providing access to its
data in a similar way to the ONS's rest api
- how are they working to make it is to combine Scottish data with UK
data sets, eg I believe there are not yet GSS codes for Scottish
statistical areas (GSS replaces ONS Snac ids in Jan 2011)
It would be great to think that Scottish govt could be a beacon of
open data, tying in to best practice elsewhere in the UK, but also
making genuine innovations and fostering local expertise too. At the
moment to be honest haven't seen much to indicate that's the case.
