Indeed! Thanks for reporting this and I also managed to reproduce
these problems using easy_install (I use pip by default).

I note that setuptools now seems obsoleted in favour of 'distribute':

Note the warning :)

I suppose this suggests datapkg instruction manual should not talk
about easy_install (though I think that is what most people are still
most familiar with!).
