Well, maybe a bit off topic, since I don't think it is recorded (rather: generated): 
the musescore.org score editor also provides a services for sharing sheet music,
which you can download in (amongst other formats) MusicXML

Yes! Lots.

Need to do a bit of filtering though. Many sites enable you to filter
by license:

I think it would be great if we had a curated group of 'open music'
sources - for exactly this purpose!
