· Professor Scott Walker, Kingston University

sdirectory/about/editorialTeamBio/26')> Dr Tanya Serisier, NYU Sydney

· Dr Robert Gillett, Queen Mary, University of London

Humanities Directory is the sister website to Social Sciences Directory and
was set up with the same aims - bringing together both scholarly
peer-reviewed research and additional value-added content (such as case
studies, presentations, reports and conference proceedings), on a platform
that is easily navigable and responsive to changing user behaviour. A
central concept is that most research is now carried out online using
keyword searches, and Humanities Directory simplifies the process by:
removing individual journal titles in favour of a large repository; and by
making the resulting content freely available. Humanities Directory will be
funded by offering low-cost institutional memberships of GBP2,000/USD3,000
and article processing charges of GBP100/USD150 to cover editorial and
production management costs, and the content will then be made freely
available to view.

Dr Alison Bancroft, editor-in-chief commented:

“The aspirations and vision of Humanities Directory are close to my own
ideals on open access content. With this Board, we have recruited some
big-hitters from prestigious universities, who will give us considerable
scope to become a major publisher within the fields of arts & humanities.
Our greatest need now is to build awareness and support, to start receiving
papers for submission and work towards our aim of launching the first Issue
in November or December 2012.”

Dan Scott, founder and director of parent company Social Sciences Directory
Limited, commented:

“Global research and higher education continues to be in difficult economic
circumstances, with budget cuts and austerity measures biting. We are
offering an alternative model of publishing that is a much better solution
for researchers, students, librarians and taxpayers alike. Our policy has
been entirely borne out by the UK mandate for ‘gold’ open access and we hope
that it provides an example for adoption in other countries. I would like to
welcome the Editorial Board and look forward to our future success.”

NOTE TO EDITORS:

Social Sciences Directory Limited was founded in 2012 by Dan Scott, as a
‘gold’ open access publisher. It was set up in reaction to many well-known
issues in scholarly publishing such as IP, the quantity of wasted material,
outdated methodologies and unsustainable costs at a time of widespread
budget austerity.

‘Gold’ open access publishing is the commonly used term for scholarly
journals that are made accessible without a subscription charge.

Social Sciences Directory Limited is an affiliate member of the Open Access
Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA) <http://oaspa.org/> .

Dan Scott will be a speaker at the Munin open access conference
<http://www.ub.uit.no/baser/ocs/index.php/Munin/MC7/schedConf/program> at
the University of Tromsø, Norway (21-23 November 2012).
