If you do not want to use DBpedia's SPARQL service you can use CatScan:

http: / / toolserver . 
org/~daniel/WikiSense/CategoryIntersect.php?wikilang=en&wikifam=.wikipedia.org&basecat=1942+deaths&basedeep=1&mode=cs&tagcat=Writers&tagdeep=3&go=Scan&format=html&userlang=en

(remove spaces: I do not think you should execute that query too often. 
It put a high load on the toolserver)

I find 116 articles.
