knocking on open doors it seems.
quite exciting to see, so many people pushing data over torrents, and seeing
some sites already specializing in this, and even ckan seems to be on the way
to do so. so i set up the parltrack datasets as an experiment like this:
dependencies:
apt-get install buildtorrent rtorrent
after moving all shared files in a directory called torrents/
buildtorrent -a udp://open.demonii.com:1337 torrents torrents/parltrack-json-dumps.torrent
serving the torrent:
rtorrent torrents/parltrack-json-dumps.torrent
downloading the torrent from another host
aria2c http://parltrack.euwiki.org/dumps/parltrack-json-dumps.torrent
some alternative torrent trackers i found
udp://tracker.coppersurfer.tk:6969
udp://open.demonii.com:1337
while openbittorrent has "delisted" its url, and you can only read it when
looking at the html source of the openbittorent page:
udp://tracker.openbittorrent.com:80
i'll be playing with this in the next days, and will also look if only updates
can be somehow pushed over torrent. if it works, i'll also add other datasets.
and i guess i'll be setting up some dedicated space and seeder for all this. in
the mean time, i guess, i'll add this torrent to the academictorrents site. i
guess i'll also fire of a mail to the eu opendata portal people to inquire if
it's possible to get listed with citizen-provided-datasets.
i'll be reporting back. if anyone wants to join playing, shoot me a mail.
thx, for all inputs
