Dear All,

We're back again with the latest from around the network.

*## Upcoming Data Expedition: Tax Evasion vs Avoidance *

On 6th June, join us for the online incarnation of a classic data
expedition: Tax evasion vs. Tax Avoidance - led by Lisa Evans of the
OpenSpending team. If you have ever wanted to better understand the
distinctions between the terms, or which the common loopholes commonly
exploited are, we welcome you to join us.

3 ways to get involved:

1. Lead a team! (Up to 6 hours)
2. Give an expert introduction! (Up to one hour) - We're looking for
experts
3. Join us as a participant on the day! (3-6 hours)

More information and how to register can be found here:

*## Get Involved: Supply and Demand*

Keen to lead a short (as little as one hour) introduction to a key tool or
topic (can be general introductions or 101s) via Google Hangout? We need
you! (Signup via the form below).

We've highlighted some commonly requested skills here - but if we've missed
anything you think people could benefit from, please do feel free to add.

*## Data Expedition: Mapping the Garment Factories - How it went*

This weekend, six teams of intrepid explorers from four continents set out
to tell the story behind the global garment industry in the "Mapping the
Garment Factories" Expedition.

This was our first experiment in doing a reactive data expedition in
response to a current event and also in the 2+2 Preparation Day:Expedition
day formats. The format worked really well, and we'll be posting the
outcomes later in the week.

Special thank you to our guest speakers Chris Taggart (*OpenCorporates*)
and the OpenGeo team (*OpenStreetMap*) for their excellent Google Hangout
Introductions to their topics. Recordings online soon.

I also gave an introduction to TileMill, though I think most of my group
were more technical than me :) Nonetheless, I adhere to the belief that the
best way to learn (*fast*) is to teach - so I'll be offering more "intros
to" as I learn new skills, and if anyone else is inclined to do the same,
read on...
