Subject: Follow up to the OGP CSO Day in Dublin
To:

Dear colleagues,

It was a pleasure meeting you last week in Dublin at the civil society day
and the Regional Meeting. Unfortunately, I did not manage to talk to all of
you in person or at length. I hope you had a good time, saw a bit of Dublin
and travelled home safely!

I wanted to follow up on the meeting with some additional links and
suggested reads.

*On OGP*

The official OGP website <http://www.opengovpartnership.org> has an
enormous amount of information. If you want to know the basics from a civil
society perspective you can have a look here <http://www.ogphub.org/basics/>.
Many of you were seasoned OGP actors, so most of this should be familiar.
If you want to know what official documents your governments submitted to
OGP, how their self-assessment looks or what the Independent Progress
Reports are saying, your best bet is the OGP Country
page<http://www.opengovpartnership.org/countries>(just click your
country). Looking at the crowd we had in the room – many
countries not yet part of OGP - I think the explanation of OGP
eligibility<http://www.ogphub.org/basics/what-is-ogp/the-eligibility-criteria/>will
be helpful. If you want to campaign for membership I can recommend the
Irish
case study<http://www.ogphub.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/The-Irish-Experience-Phase-One.pdf>
.

If you want to start or improve the dialogue with your government, have a
look at the additional Consultation Guidelines
<http://www.ogphub.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Additional-Guidance-Consultations.pdf>that
will inform you on how to improve the consultation process with your
government. If you want to know more about good commitments on a whole
range of Open Government topics I can recommend the Open Government
Guide<http://www.opengovguide.com/>
.

For more good reads, go to the OGPhub's Resources
Subpage<http://www.ogphub.org/resources/>that stores all our existing
tools, case studies and guidelines, which
might be of use in your daily work advocating for more open government at
home.

If you are new to OGP: the Country Case Studies
<http://www.ogphub.org/resources/>at the lower half of the page document
the first round experience with OGP in 15 countries, of which you can read
the lessons learned in the summary document ‘Improving the OGP experience’
here<http://www.ogphub.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Improving-the-OGP-Experience-2.pdf>.
A best practice for everyone to learn from considering the (steps taken in
the) co-creation of a National Action Plan is this story of the UK national
Action Plan 2013-2015<http://www.ogphub.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/StoryoftheUKNationalActionPlan2013-15-1.pdf>
.

The team that makes all these independent progress report had a very
interesting presentation that busts some of the
myths<https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwD0jnz8k5PQUnFwclRtcWE5Nm8/edit>around
OGP. Alan Hudson of Global Integrity also
looked <http://alanhudson.info/?p=11589> at the IRM data.

*On the Dublin meeting*

On the evening prior to the European Regional Summit, a Civil Society event
was organised by Open Knowledge Ireland
<https://okfn.org/network/ireland/>in cooperation with OGP's Civil
Society Coordination team. The objective of
meeting as you know was to get connected as civil society, exchange ideas
and experiences, and get up to speed for the next two days. I think we
succeeded in all of these. You can read back my opening
speech<http://www.ogphub.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Opening-speech-CSO-Day-Dublin.pdf>and
see some of the great
pictures<https://www.flickr.com/photos/123736148@N04/sets/72157644610151071/>that
were taken during the day.

Most of the sessions of the actual Regional Meeting can be found on the OGP
Youtube channel, including the great speech of the European Ombudsman Emily
O'Reilly<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycvnx_10RcQ&list=UUCDhqc6Xx5a-VKZNo6q_8aQ>speaking
on the European context of open government, sessions of the
different OGP thematic Working
Groups<http://www.opengovpartnership.org/get-involved/join-working-group>and
a discussion on the role
of the private sector<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuK_rFCL9bY&list=UUCDhqc6Xx5a-VKZNo6q_8aQ>in
OGP. All plenaries were recorded and can be viewed back on OGP's
Youtube
Channel<https://www.youtube.com/user/OpenGovPart/videos?sort=dd&view=0&shelf_id=3>.
Civil Society Steering Committee member Veronica Cretu held a inspiring
speech on what we will need to continue working on *together* to get the
most out of OGP, which can be read back
here<http://www.ogphub.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/speech-Veronica-Cretu-May-8-Dublin.doc>.
Of course, you can also look back at the Twitter stream by using the
#OGPDublin hashtag.

*Keeping up to date*

If you want to be kept up to date about OGP, then please sign
up<http://www.ogphub.org/profile/>for the newsletter and/or mailing
list. We have also created a
map <http://www.ogphub.org/mapping/> of who-is-who in the open government
world. If you sign up and provide some additional information you can also
be found on the map by your colleagues. The map also gives access to other
resources and you can search by country, topic or name.

Finally, you can also follow OGP (@opengovpart) or me (@maassenpaul) on
twitter or drop me an e-mail (maassenpaul at gmail.com) if you need more
information or advice.

Keep in touch!

Paul

p.s. OGP is also looking for 5 new Steering Committee members. Want to know
more about what that asks for or how you can nominate? Look
here<http://www.ogphub.org/blog/nomination-for-ogp-steering-committee-members-opened/>.
