Dear open-knowledge community of Kenya,
I am delighted to let you know that my latest book, *Traversing Digital
Babe*l, has been released by MIT Press. It addresses the Open Government
movement worldwide, and presents a breakthrough solution to governments'
reluctance to further the open exchange of data. Understanding government
information flows is a critical step towards an open knowledge society.
This book is essential reading for anyone interested in furthering open
knowledge, open government, and efficient information exchange.
Below please find a short description of the entire book, classified by the
MIT Press under the categories: “government,” “business,” and “big data.”
Yours,
Alon Peled

*Peled, Alon. Traversing Digital Babel - Short Book Description*
In this book, Alon Peled proposes a groundbreaking approach to revitalize
critical information flows in public sector agencies. Peled suggests
considering public agency information assets as a contested commodity, and
employing selective incentives to “nudge” agencies to exchange these assets
in a Public Sector Information Exchange (PSIE). Peled demonstrates that
PSIE and similar programs can save governments billions of dollars, improve
services to citizens, and even save lives. Peled maps the primary ethical,
political, legal, economic and technical challenges to PSIE and how these
challenges can be addressed.
The book is engaging, thought provoking and entertaining for experts,
practitioners and interested readers alike. It is written in an accessible,
crisp style. It provides relevant, contemporary case studies and examples
of public sector information sharing successes and failures from the USA,
Australia, Iceland, Holland, Brazil and others.
