Removing okfn-discuss as this is pretty dev-y :-)

It is easy for machines to parse and generate. It is based on the already successful JSON format and provides a way to help JSON data interoperate at Web-scale. If you are already familiar with JSON, writing JSON-LD is very easy. These properties make JSON-LD an ideal Linked Data interchange language for JavaScript environments, Web service, and unstructured databases such as CouchDB and MongoDB.

Yes, indeedy. We investigated (and used this extensively) earlier this
year in relation to our Open Bibliographic work, e.g.:

<http://openbiblio.net/2011/05/04/comparative-serialisation-of-rdf-in-json/>

Plus extensive discussion on openbiblio-dev:

<http://lists.okfn.org/pipermail/openbiblio-dev/2011-April/000236.html>
<http://lists.okfn.org/pipermail/openbiblio-dev/2011-May/000254.html>

I note that our conclusion was (in April) that, unfortunately,
JSON-LD's spec was not yet sufficiently clear to allow unambiguous and
reliable serialization and deserialization (see the latter post and
following discussion).
