I'm less worried about having access to their code than I am about the
thing working - nodester wouldn't work for us because we need to have
access to an elasticsearch instance, Heroku can provide this through
the addon (as it does for email sending and could for a regular SQL db
if we used one).

TBH while open is great I'm already developing on windows, on a
hardware platform which requires proprietary drivers for half its
components, using books which are copyright as much of my reference
material. I've probably spent a few thousand pounds on software over
the last few years and I'm fine with that. If I have to choose between
'effective' and 'open' I'll go for effective every time - obviously
I'd prefer to not have to make the decision, given two equally
effective systems I'll take the open one.
