Hi all,
First of all, I might come with a small introduction. My name is Michelle, and I have been signed up for this OKFN maillist for some time, but I haven't participated that much yet. Some of you might have heard about me or met me, but I don't think all of you had.
I'm founder of Aarhus Data Drinks (https://www.facebook.com/AarhusDataDrinks?fref=ts) (<--- please do not comment on the fact that we communicate via FB.. ;-) I know, I know...), and now I'm also currently working as project manager for Open Data Aarhus (ODAA) - Aarhus' Open Data portal (www.odaa.dk). I'm located within the municipality.
Then next: Congratulations Tryggvi! :)
And third - Miska, I would like to hear more about the Nordic School of Data. If you are interested, I would like to help out to the extend that I can. I would like to help with giving presentations and talks on Open Data - both the more idealistic and general ones, but also from a municipality's point of view (it's harder opening data from the municipalites, than one should think!)
Are you going to skype on the 18th. of June? I'm at a conference there, but I might be able to find a quiet room with stable wifi connection.
Kind regards,
Michelle

Congrats Tryggvi!
And thanks for the info and notes, Miska. Was a great call today, really interesting to hear about all the different projects and also see a couple of new faces. Thanks all!

Hey Tryggvi,
Thanks for the note :)
Well, perhaps we should think about doodling our way to a more convenient time for all of us.
Christian Villum tends to be on a train when we have our call :)
We'll look into this later. ... err... soon.
For now:
- There's another call, on Wednesday the 18th - at a time to be determined - about figuring out how to start a Nordic School of Data:
I'll make more noise about that soon. But for now, if you're interesting in attending, please put your details here:

- There are notes from the call today, in the pad, below the following line:

As you probably all notice I'm not joining (since I'm not there). I'm going to spend the time with my one day old daughter instead.
I would still very much like to join future calls (thanks for organising Miska).
Just a note. The timing will cause me to be a little late over the summer time because my other daughter's preschool starts at the same time.

I quite appreciate that you want to keep this going.
So, the call is in a few minutes.
If you'd like to be part, we'll be using skype ( sorry about the closed tech, evil firewalls owing... ) .
Contact me - 'mknapek' on skype and I'll join you to the group call.

Hi all
I am also very positive to continuing our cooperation and thank you so much Miska for facilitiating this and pushing us. I am very sorry that I haven’t been able to join recently, but I seem to have spent the last weeks on a plane. Things are better now and I’m looking forward to our talk on Wednesday.
Best
Heather

Dear All,
I would like to thank Miska for his great commitment and and Christian for the reply.
I am in to this cooperation and calls, and I think is is very good way to understand what is happening around and how we can cooperate. Sometimes one might not be available for skype call but next call that person can be and can follow discussion via meeting notes.
I will be available for meetup this month if nothing urgent happens.
We are already cooperating with Nordic Fi and we will be glad to cooperate to give Nordic Open Knowledge Awards all together. It is not launched yet but I have already registered domain http://okaward.org/ as well as got confirmation that Wikimedia Sweden will be part of it to organize it.

Hi Miska, hi all,
I'm a big +1 on keeping this spark in the hay alive. While it may seem hard for all of us to squeeze in more "work" in our already crowded diaries (here too!), I do think there there is a lot to gain for all of our groupings by being in contact with each other. I even think that just having regular monthly or bi-monthly update-calls (without the need to start new projects together as the only purpose) would be really useful and give us all a sense of nordic unity (network-building, experience exchange, etc. - in other words, synergies!). If we can build such a basic network activity, then shared projects might grow from that later on in an organic fashion. First we build the foundation, later we (may) build the house.
Miska has been really great at getting this off the ground, but like all of us he's a volunteer and it should not fall on his shoulders alone to keep the fire burning :) In other words, to keep this basic nordic network afloat, it's up to us all to take a little share upon our shoulders and show some enthusiasm! In the nordics we have so much potential to work together and be connected, and it would be such a pity if we indirectly isolate ourselves by not chatting every now and then. It will not require a lot of work from each of us if we all chip in with a little effort (for instance by attending the update calls every month or every second month). That simple engagement will bring us a long way, I'm sure!
I would love to hear from all countries/people in this thread about what you think and whether you are up for being part in taking this forward - or whether we should stop filling up your inbox :) (asking to be dropped from the thread is quite okay of course, frankness goes a long way).
All the best from sunny Copenhagen,
-Christian

Dear Nordic bunch,
Hope you’re all doing well.
I regret that people were unavailable and that there was only three of us during the last Open Knowledge Nordics online meetup. I guess it’s a busy time of year for all of us.
In any event, I think there is much to gain from keeping contact and collaborating. All projects start slow - but think there’s much good that can come out of this collaboration. I’m not saying this because I’m getting paid for this to succeed or that there’s some ego issue. I’m using my spare time to try help openness projects, and I think this one can have a lot of good in it.
In the Nordic countries we’ve got a lot of similarities that can help us work together, and also different situations, which we can help to develop knowledge and practices for open practice.
There's quite a number of projects coming up that we could collaborate on. Already now OKF Finland and Sweden are collaborating on the FOIa platform Froide (Iceland - teeempted yet?).
What do you guys think?
Does it make sense to continue collaborating?
What would you suggest that we do to improve the collaboration?
The next call should be on Wednesday the 4th June, 10:00 CET.
Hope people will be there.
yours,
miska
