Dear OpenTrials supporter,

It’s been a while since we were in touch - once again we’ve been busy
behind the scenes! This time we bring you news about our launch date and a
hackathon, more details on the OpenTrialsFDA project, and our presentation
at Evidence Live.

Launch/hackathon dates

Exciting news - we have a launch date! OpenTrials will launch its public
beta on 10th October 2016 at the World Health Summit

in Berlin. I’ll be presenting OpenTrials and announcing details of how to
use it at the ‘Fostering Open Science in Global Health’ workshop. If you’re
attending the summit or the workshop please drop me a line

- it would be great to meet.

Just before, on the 8th October, we’ll be running a one-day hackathon, also
in Berlin. This will be an opportunity for developers, data scientists,
health technologists, open data advocates and others interested in health
to learn more about the data that powers OpenTrials, how it’s structured,
and how to use our API to search the OpenTrials database and
build applications using the data.

We’re close to announcing a venue for the Berlin hackathon - I’ll be
sending an announcement once we have that confirmed, but for now if you’re

OpenTrialsFDA

In May, OpenTrialsFDA was selected a finalist for the Open Science Prize -
its aim is to make the information contained in the Drug Approval Packages
on the FDA website easily accessible and searchable. OpenTrialsFDA is a
project OpenTrials is collaborating on with Ben Goldacre and Erick Turner,
a former FDA reviewer. We’re currently working on a prototype to
demonstrate in early December 2016, with the winner of the prize being

Evidence Live

As some of you may know, we presented OpenTrials at the Evidence Live
conference earlier this year in Oxford. Ben Goldacre and Vitor Baptista
(OpenTrials Technical Lead) gave an overview of the project including the
problems OpenTrials will address, its technical infrastructure, our
progress so far, what’s next, and a short demo. As a teaser, we’ve
important and deduplicated 331,999 clinical trials from nine clinical trial
