[open-archaeology] models and scripts

Hi all!

After some weeks of silence, I'd like to restart the working group
activity and discussions.

One good thing we already have is CKAN, the Comprehensive Knowledge
Archive Network, where some of us have registered existing open
archaeological data packages.

Take a look:
http://ckan.net/tag/read/archaeology includes also "non-free" packages
while http://ckan.net/group/archaeology just lists those that we have
selected as good open data (I think some more should be added to the
group, actually).

I'm quite sure there are lots of other open archaeological datasets, for
example published together with papers in journals that are open access
(even though I'm afraid that most OA journals aren't open according to
opendefinition.org), and perhaps even more in personal unpublished
databases.

Last week I was in London for the Late Antique Archaeology conference:
more than one person showed interest in having more archaeological
excavations available on the web. I believe the same interest is
widespread in lots of research fields, so it would be great if we could
start developing best practices for sharing such data.

Ciao,
steko
